What’s covered by MTPL?

Motor Third‑Party Liability (MTPL) is the legally required car insurance that covers damages you cause to other people (their bodies and property) when driving your vehicle.

What’s not covered by MTPL?

MTPL does not cover damage to your own vehicle, your medical expenses, or injuries to your passengers. It also excludes risks like theft, fire, vandalism, and damage resulting from illegal activities (e.g. driving under the influence or without a license). Additionally, it doesn't cover transported goods or legal defense costs unless you have separate cargo or legal protection insurance.

What if I drive without MTPL?

Driving without valid MTPL insurance is illegal and can result in heavy fines, vehicle impoundment, and refusal of technical inspection. If you cause an accident, you’ll be personally liable for all damages and medical expenses. Without MTPL, you also can’t obtain a Green Card to drive abroad.

Does MTPL cover driving abroad?

Yes, MTPL typically covers driving abroad within the EU and certain non-EU countries through the Green Card system. To travel internationally, you must posses a Green Card from, which serves as proof of valid liability insurance outside your home country.

If I have CASCO, do I still need MTPL?

Yes. Even if you have CASCO, you are still legally required to have MTPL. CASCO covers damage to your own vehicle, but MTPL is mandatory by law to cover any injuries or property damage you cause to other people. One does not replace the other—they serve different purposes.

What does CASCO cover?

Covers damage to your own vehicle from a wide range of risks, including traffic accidents (even if you're at fault), theft, fire, vandalism, natural disasters (like hail or floods), and glass breakage. It can also include optional extras such as roadside assistance, replacement vehicle, and legal expenses, depending on your policy.

What’s excluded from a standard policy?

CASCO does not cover mechanical breakdowns, normal wear and tear, or damage caused by illegal use—such as driving under the influence or without a license. It also excludes use for unauthorized purposes like racing or commercial driving unless declared.

Can I add extras?

Yes, optional add-ons such as roadside assistance, replacement vehicle coverage, legal expenses protection, and personal accident cover for you and your passengers. These endorsements enhance your basic policy and can be tailored to your needs.

What does it cover?

This insurance provides compensation for the driver and passengers in case of accidental bodily injury, disability, or death resulting from a vehicle accident. It typically covers medical expenses, permanent disability benefits, and accidental death benefits while traveling in the insured vehicle.

Can this insurance be purchased separately or as an add-on?

Voluntary Personal Accident Cover in Vehicles can usually be purchased either as a standalone policy or as an add-on to your existing motor insurance (like MTPL or CASCO), depending on the insurer’s offerings. It’s often more convenient and cost-effective as an add-on.

What is GAP insurance?

GAP Insurance covers the difference between the actual cash value of your vehicle (what your insurer pays if it’s stolen or totaled) and the amount you still owe on your loan or lease. It protects you from having to pay out-of-pocket if your car’s market value is less than your outstanding finance balance after a total loss.

Who needs GAP Insurance?

GAP Insurance is ideal for people who have financed or leased a new or expensive vehicle.

When should I consider buying GAP Insurance?

You should consider GAP Insurance if you’ve made a small down payment, have a long-term loan or lease, or if your vehicle depreciates quickly. It’s most valuable during the first few years of ownership when the car’s market value can drop faster than your loan balance.
